Roxanna "Roxy" Chapa moved to Austin in 2007, and has been a true Austinite ever since. Her favorite hobbies include walking her dogs at Lady Bird Lake, searching for novels at Half Price Books, and discovering new and local artists.
Roxanna Chapa didn't come into audiology the conventional way. In fact, she didn't even know what audiology was when she began her college career.
In college, she began as a pre-med biology student, and then switched her major to speech pathology. Once she was introduced to her first audiology course, she was hooked! Roxanna immediately became interested in human science and how the ears work. She was introduced to new ideas she never learned about in high school such as bone conduction, tinnitus, auditory neuropathy, and so on. These new concepts quickly sparked her interest, and she began to do research on speech perception. It wasn’t long before she was beginning her graduate program.
Roxanna completed her externship in San Antonio, but she always knew she wanted to come back to Austin eventually. She took a part-time job with an ENT and began working with veterans with hearing loss. As she started to work full-time and see more and more patients, she began to wonder if this work was something she could do on her own. After much hard work and research, North Austin Hearing Center became a reality!
Roxanna’s favorite about owning her own practice is that she can truly individualize her care for her unique patients. Roxanna takes her time with each patient to discuss their needs and help them get used to their new lifestyle with better hearing.
